BCCI Names Squads for West Indies Series; Rishabh Pant to Lead Rest of India in Irani Cup

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Men's Selection Committee has announced national squads for India's upcoming white-ball home series against the West Indies, alongside the Rest of India (ROI) roster for the 2026 Irani Cup. Shubman Gill has been appointed captain of the 15-member One Day International (ODI) team, which sees the return of senior stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, with KL Rahul named as vice-captain. The ODI team also features fresh talent, including maiden call-ups for Auqib Nabi, Gurnoor Brar, and Naman Dhir. In the Twenty20 International (T20I) format, Shreyas Iyer will continue as captain with Tilak Varma as his deputy. The T20I squad incorporates explosive young batters, including Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and Ishan Kishan, as India prepares for the multi-match home campaign starting September 27 in Trivandrum. Simultaneously, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been chosen to captain the Rest of India side against Ranji Trophy champions Jammu & Kashmir in the Irani Cup match scheduled in Srinagar from October 1 to 5. Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan will serve as vice-captain in a red-ball squad featuring pace bowler Akash Deep and spinner Manav Suthar. The selections reflect BCCI's strategic focus on balancing senior international fixtures with structured red-ball opportunities for top domestic performers.
