Bengaluru Unveils 10.7 km Signal-Free Corridor, Enhancing Urban Connectivity and Introducing 'Wall of Gratitude'

Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, has taken a significant leap in urban infrastructure with the inauguration of a 10.7-kilometer signal-free arterial road. This new corridor, named after former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna and forming a crucial segment of the ambitious Bengaluru Business Corridor project, aims to drastically reduce commute times and ease traffic congestion in the city's western and south-western suburbs. Developed at an estimated cost of ₹631 crore, the 10-lane thoroughfare connects Kadabagere Cross with Challaghatta Metro Station. It is projected to cut travel time between Magadi Road and Mysuru Road from approximately 60 minutes to just 20 minutes, offering a much faster alternative for commuters. Beyond its immediate impact on mobility, the project incorporates several modern features designed for enhanced urban living. These include dedicated service roads, lush green boulevards, and a separate cycling track, promoting sustainable transport and greener spaces. The corridor also boasts robust engineering, featuring three underpasses, eleven bridges, and a 270-meter tunnel to ensure seamless traffic flow. Furthermore, a three-meter central median has been strategically integrated to accommodate future Metro rail expansion, highlighting a forward-thinking approach to urban planning. During the inauguration, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced a novel 'Wall of Gratitude' initiative, a government policy to permanently acknowledge landowners who voluntarily contribute their land for public welfare and infrastructure projects without objections, with the first such memorial erected along this new road. This initiative aims to foster greater public participation and cooperation in future developmental endeavors.
