In a cinematic operation on September 2, 2026, the Bhadravathi New Town police arrested a notorious rowdy-sheeter who attempted to evade capture by submerging himself in a stream at Bhandarahalli in Bhadravathi taluk. The accused, identified as Dilip alias Kariya, is involved in at least 16 criminal cases, including theft and attempted murder.
The police operation was launched after a local court issued multiple arrest warrants against Dilip for repeatedly failing to appear in court proceedings. Acting on a specific tip-off that the suspect was hiding near a stream in Bhandarahalli, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Ramesh and staff member Prasanna rushed to the spot. Initial searches along the stream banks yielded no sign of the suspect. However, alert police personnel noticed unusual movement among underwater weeds and air bubbles rising continuously to the surface.
Realizing that the accused was hiding under the water, SI Ramesh and his team waded directly into the stream, grabbed Dilip, and pulled him out. He was handcuffed immediately on the riverbank to prevent any further escape attempt. The prompt and tactical action by the Bhadravathi New Town police team has won wide appreciation from local residents and senior police officials across Shivamogga district.
