Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar conducted an extensive field inspection of drought-affected agricultural areas across Gadag district on September 1, 2026. Visiting villages including Kadampur in Mundaragi taluk as well as Kurthakoti and Hulakoti in Gadag taluk, the Chief Minister walked through damaged crop fields and directly interacted with local farmers reeling from severe rainfall deficit.
Following the ground assessment, Shivakumar chaired a high-level review meeting with district officials and elected representatives at the Gadag Deputy Commissioner's office. Addressing presspersons after the meeting, he stated that the state government would soon publish a second list of drought-hit taluks in Karnataka. While only Gajendragad taluk was declared drought-hit in the initial state notification, local leaders, including district in-charge minister Basavaraj Rayareddi and senior leader H.K. Patil, submitted formal memoranda urging the government to declare all seven taluks in Gadag district as drought-affected.
The Chief Minister noted that official reports and field findings submitted by local district administrations will be compiled and evaluated under prescribed Union government guidelines before seeking Central financial assistance. He also stressed the importance of strengthening rural employment guarantee initiatives to prevent distress migration of agricultural labourers from Gadag district.
