Defence Ministry Signs ₹586 Crore Contract for Auxiliary Power Units for T-72 and T-90 Tanks

The Union Ministry of Defence inked a major contract worth ₹586 crore with Accurate Industrial Controls Private Limited on September 21, 2026, to procure indigenous Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for the Indian Army's T-72 and T-90 main battle tanks. The agreement was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. Auxiliary Power Units act as alternative power sources to generate electricity required for operating key tank systems, including fire control systems, firing circuits, and gun stabilization, without needing to keep the main engine running continuously. The induction of these indigenously developed units is designed to enhance the operational readiness, fuel sustainability, and maintenance efficiency of the Army's mechanized formations. Executed under the Make-II framework of defence procurement, this contract highlights private-sector research and innovation in critical military technology. Government officials stated that the initiative aligns with the 'Aatmanirbharta in Defence' roadmap, reinforcing self-reliance and bolstering domestic defence manufacturing.
