Congress MLA B. Devendrappa representing Jagalur constituency in Davanagere district has issued a stern warning to the Karnataka state government, declaring that he will resign from his Assembly membership if Jagalur taluk is omitted from the official list of drought-affected areas. Speaking in Jagalur, the legislator expressed deep dissatisfaction over the government's initial drought declaration, which excluded the severely drought-prone Jagalur taluk while including neighbouring areas with better irrigation facilities.
Devendrappa criticized the Davanagere district administration and senior leaders for neglecting the dire agrarian crisis facing local farmers. Jagalur taluk, known for its arid climate and dependence on rain-fed agriculture, has suffered severe crop damages due to inadequate rainfall during the current monsoon season. Local farmers and political groups have held massive demonstrations in Jagalur, marching from the guest house to the taluk office, demanding immediate relief, crop loss compensation, and formal drought recognition.
Addressing the media, MLA Devendrappa stated that continuing in office would be meaningless if he failed to secure justice and drought relief for his constituents. He noted that top state leadership, including the Chief Minister, had assured him of incorporating Jagalur in the upcoming second drought notification. However, he emphasized that he would strictly monitor the outcome and submit his resignation if the promise is not honored.
