Karnataka is driving forward with the expansion of its Tumakuru industrial node, a pivotal component of the larger Bengaluru-Chennai Industrial Corridor. The state government has allocated a substantial 1,736 acres for this project, with the aim of drawing ₹7,000 crore in fresh investments and generating over 88,000 employment opportunities. The ambitious timeline sets a completion target for 2027, with current reports indicating 30% physical and 20% financial progress.
This industrial hub is strategically positioned to attract diverse manufacturing and logistics sectors, including food and beverages, textiles, electronics, chemicals, and general engineering. As a testament to its potential, Jindal Aluminium has already been identified as an anchor investor, securing 151 acres within the node. Additionally, 300 acres have been reserved for a Japan Industrial Township, and 200 acres are designated for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), fostering a balanced industrial ecosystem.
The Tumakuru node's development is crucial for extending Bengaluru's northern urban corridor and improving regional connectivity. Plans are also underway for significant infrastructure enhancements, including a proposed 59.6-km Metro line with 26 stations to integrate the node into the broader regional economy, facilitating smoother transport and logistics. The project underscores Karnataka's broader vision to achieve a $3 trillion economy by 2047 and create one lakh new jobs, as articulated by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
