The Karnataka government has officially constituted a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee to review pressing issues faced by students and recommend comprehensive education reforms across the state. Chaired by Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Minority Welfare, and Haj & Wakf U.T. Khader, the panel was established following a state Cabinet decision. The other cabinet ministers forming the high-level committee include Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy, Home Minister Priyank Kharge, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, and School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa.
The panel has been entrusted with six specific terms of reference aimed at overhauling the state's educational framework. A primary priority is safeguarding the integrity and transparency of examination and recruitment processes. The committee will formulate measures to prevent question paper leaks, eliminate recruitment malpractices, and introduce a fixed, time-bound calendar for public examinations. Additionally, the sub-committee is tasked with evaluating the high cost of education by regulating fees charged by private institutions and monitoring commercial coaching centers to alleviate financial burdens on families.
Another major focus is addressing student mental health and psychological wellbeing. The panel will design dedicated suicide prevention strategies and mental health support mechanisms, particularly in high-pressure academic hubs and residential educational institutions. Furthermore, the committee will assess public education infrastructure, recommend filling teacher vacancies, upgrade laboratory facilities in government institutions, and align academic curricula with modern industry requirements to boost youth employability. The sub-committee will consult students, parents, and educators before submitting its detailed report to the state government within one month.
