During his Independence Day address in Bengaluru on August 15, 2026, Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar unveiled a comprehensive roadmap for the state's future, centered on job creation, technological advancement, and robust infrastructure development. A key highlight is the 'Udyoga Sankalpa' and 'Udyoga Nidhi' schemes, aimed at generating one lakh new jobs by incentivizing entrepreneurs, especially in ten economically backward districts, with a monthly stipend for each new position created. The government also plans to fill 72,000 vacant posts across various departments within the next six months.
In a significant thrust towards technology, the Chief Minister announced the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) education in government schools from Class 6 onwards, coupled with the proposed 'AI Akshara Abhiyana' and 'Coding Gurukula' programs. Bengaluru is slated to host India's first government-owned AI university, further cementing its position as a global tech hub. Additionally, five global technology centers are planned for Kalaburagi, Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad, Mangaluru, and Mysuru, extending the 'Beyond Bengaluru' initiative.
Infrastructure development remains a top priority, with plans for major expansions including 220 km of Metro in Bengaluru, a 117-km ring road, and 7,100 km of rural roads. The government has also approved water security projects worth ₹16,000 crore and proposed a state-owned Motor Vehicle Insurance Corporation to streamline insurance processes. This multi-faceted approach aims to propel Karnataka towards a $3 trillion economy by 2047, ensuring equitable growth and a skilled workforce ready for future challenges.
