Karnataka Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh conducted an unannounced inspection of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) facilities at the Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS) in Majestic, Bengaluru. The surprise visit was aimed at personally reviewing passenger amenities, cleanliness standards, terminal maintenance, and the ongoing distribution of student bus passes.
During the inspection, Minister Suresh sat alongside waiting commuters on bus shelter benches, interacting directly with passengers travelling across intra-city and inter-state routes. While most commuters expressed general satisfaction with bus frequency and basic amenities, the minister flagged operational gaps. Notably, he expressed strong displeasure upon finding no doctor on duty at the Health Department’s 'Namma Clinic' operating inside the BMTC bus station premises. He immediately instructed the BMTC Managing Director to coordinate with the Health Department Commissioner to deploy medical staff without delay.
Additionally, the transport minister inspected retail outlets and refreshment stalls within the bus complex, warning vendors against overcharging passengers above prescribed maximum retail prices. He also verified luggage counter charges following past commuter feedback. The initiative reflects heightened state government scrutiny over urban public transport infrastructure in Bengaluru, aimed at improving daily commute conditions for millions of state bus passengers.
