Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, addressing the state on the 80th Independence Day from Bengaluru's Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground, unveiled an expansive vision for Karnataka by 2047, aiming to transform it into a $3 trillion economy. Central to this vision is the creation of one lakh new jobs and a significant push towards integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into various sectors. To achieve this, the state plans to introduce AI education from Class 6 in all government schools through initiatives like 'AI Akshara Abhiyana' and 'Coding Gurukula.' Furthermore, India’s first government-owned AI university will be established in Bengaluru, complemented by AI hubs across key cities such as Kalaburagi, Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad, Mangaluru, and Mysuru under the 'Beyond Bengaluru' initiative to decentralize technological growth.
The Chief Minister also detailed substantial infrastructure development plans, including projects worth ₹1.50 lakh crore for Bengaluru, encompassing the expansion of the Namma Metro network to 220 km and the construction of a 117-km ring road under the Bengaluru Business Corridor. Beyond the capital, the government has completed 1,663 km of State Highways, 3,000 km of major district roads, and 125 bridges in the past year, with an additional 7,100 km of rural roads under development through the 'Pragathi Patha' scheme. Water security remains a priority, with the first phase of the Yettinahole Integrated Drinking Water Project nearing completion for Tumakuru district and 112 new major water resource projects worth ₹16,000 crore approved statewide. These initiatives underscore the government's commitment to balanced regional development, leveraging technology and robust infrastructure to enhance livability and economic prosperity across Karnataka.
