Ningappa Balekundrigi, the headmaster of the Government Marathi Higher Primary School in Amagaon village—located inside the dense forest area of Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary—has completed 29 years of continuous teaching service in the remote locality.
At a time when many teachers prefer postings in urban and easily accessible areas, Ningappa Balekundrigi chose to stay in the isolated forest village to ensure that local children receive uninterrupted education. Throughout his nearly three decades in Amagaon, he has overcome numerous challenges, including harsh weather, limited transportation, and basic infrastructure gaps, earning the respect and deep affection of the local residents.
In addition to his academic duties, Ningappa acts as an essential link between the remote villagers and the Khanapur taluk administration. He regularly brings pressing local issues such as drinking water shortages and basic infrastructure needs to the attention of authorities, while also mediating local community disputes. Refusing transfer opportunities to move to urban centers, he has expressed his resolve to continue serving in Amagaon until his retirement, standing as an exemplar of dedication for educators across the region.
