Leopard Kills Buffalo Calf in Kunchevu Hosahalli Village of Holenarsipura, Attack Caught on CCTV

A wild leopard created widespread panic in Kunchevu Hosahalli village of Holenarsipura taluk in Hassan district after entering a residential area at night and killing a young buffalo calf. The calf, owned by a local farmer named Kumara, was tethered in the cattle shed area directly outside his house when the predator struck. According to local residents, the leopard prowled into the village under cover of darkness and pounced on the calf. The struggle was so intense that the tethering rope snapped, allowing the wild cat to drag the animal away and devour it nearby. The entire attack was captured on a surveillance camera installed on Kumara's house, showing the leopard stealthily approaching and dragging off its prey within moments. This incident has heightened anxiety among villagers in Kunchevu Hosahalli and surrounding rural hamlets in Holenarsipura taluk. Local farmers reported that wild leopards have been frequently venturing close to human habitations in recent weeks, targeting livestock including sheep, goats, calves, and domestic dogs. Frustrated by the growing threat to their safety and agricultural livelihoods, the villagers have urged the Forest Department to deploy cages and capture the animal immediately.
