Memorandum Submitted to Declare Harihara Taluk Drought-Hit Following Severe Rainfall Deficit

Farmer representatives and local leaders from Harihara taluk have submitted a formal memorandum to Davanagere Deputy Commissioner G.M. Gangadharaswamy, urging the state government to officially declare Harihara taluk as a drought-affected region. The delegation was led by Nandigavi Srinivas, Chairman of the Harihara Taluk Guarantee Implementation Committee, along with several prominent agricultural leaders from the region. Addressing the district administration during the submission, Srinivas highlighted the severe agrarian distress prevailing across Harihara taluk due to a deficit in monsoon rainfall. The scarcity of timely precipitation has severely impacted seasonal crops, including maize, paddy, and sugarcane, causing heavy financial losses to farm families across rural pockets. The delegation insisted that the revenue and agriculture departments immediately conduct a comprehensive crop damage survey across all villages in Harihara taluk. The memorandum emphasized that officially designating Harihara as drought-hit is essential for providing state emergency relief, including direct financial compensation for crop failure, restructuring or waiving agricultural loans, and ensuring adequate fodder and drinking water supply for rural communities. Residents and agricultural workers in Harihara are looking forward to quick action from the district administration and Karnataka state government to alleviate the ongoing rural crisis.
