NHRC India and MEA Conclude 5th ITEC Human Rights Training for Global South Delegates

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India, in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), successfully concluded the fifth Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Executive Capacity Building Programme on Human Rights in New Delhi on September 18, 2026. The six-day executive conference brought together 38 senior functionaries from 14 National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) across the Global South. The participating nations included Algeria, Chile, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Oman, Samoa, South Africa, Tajikistan, and Zimbabwe. The customized training initiative focused on building institutional capacities, exchanging administrative best practices, and formulating collaborative legal frameworks to tackle emerging human rights challenges. Delivering the valedictory address, NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian underscored the importance of institutional learning and international solidarity among developing nations. Sessions throughout the week covered civil and political liberties, socio-economic protections, human rights in digital technology, and complaint management workflows based on NHRC India's three-decade operational experience. This joint initiative reinforces India's diplomatic leadership under South-South cooperation, demonstrating how sharing institutional knowledge helps protect civil rights, enforce accountability, and build public trust in governance structures globally.
