Ramadurga Town Demands Dedicated Vegetable Market as Roadside Trading Causes Traffic Bottlenecks

Ramadurga town in Belagavi district is a major hub for vegetable cultivation, supplying fresh produce to distant towns across Karnataka as well as neighboring Goa. However, local farmers and street vendors face persistent difficulties due to the lack of a proper dedicated market infrastructure. Currently, weekly markets take place on Thursdays and Sundays, but daily vegetable sales are conducted right along the narrow Thera Bazaar roadside. This daily roadside trading regularly causes major traffic congestion, creates safety risks due to stray cattle, and inconveniences both shoppers and commuters. Although a vegetable market complex was previously constructed behind the Krishna Theater, it has become cramped, aged, and largely converted into storage godowns by local merchants. Vendors point out that ample land is available behind the old complex for expansion if town municipal authorities take the initiative. Responding to public demands, Town Municipal Council (TMC) Chief Officer Eranna Gudadari stated that administration steps will be taken to construct a well-equipped vegetable market facility and urged vendors to cooperate in the interim. Local street vendors and residents have urged political representatives and civic officials to resolve pending issues quickly to provide an organized, clean market space.
