Three Nursing Students Killed, 20 Injured in Bus Overturn Near Aimangala in Chitradurga

Tragedy struck on National Highway 48 near Aimangala in Chitradurga district's Hiriyur taluk when a private tourist bus carrying college students overturned and fell into a roadside trench, resulting in three fatalities and leaving 20 others injured. The victims were third-year B.Sc Nursing students from Universal College in Bengaluru who were returning home from an educational excursion to Goa. The incident occurred during the early morning hours as the bus carrying 49 students and three staff members was navigating the highway section near Aimangala. Local residents and passersby rushed to the scene to assist in rescue efforts, breaking window glass to extricate passengers trapped inside the overturned vehicle. Emergency medical teams dispatched to the spot transported the injured individuals to the Chitradurga District Government Hospital for treatment. Police officers from the local precinct inspected the site, launched a preliminary investigation into the cause of the accident, and registered a case to determine if driver fatigue or mechanical failure contributed to the vehicle losing control.
