Karnataka is strategically developing Tumakuru into a significant industrial manufacturing hub, positioned as a key node within the broader Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC). The state government has allocated a sprawling 1,736 acres for this ambitious project, which is projected to draw in substantial investments totaling around ₹7,000 crore for its Phase-A development. This massive industrial undertaking is expected to create over 88,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, providing a major boost to the region's economy and workforce.
Key components of the Tumakuru Industrial Hub include a dedicated 300-acre Japan Industrial Township (JIT), aimed at attracting foreign investments and advanced manufacturing capabilities. Additionally, 200 acres have been designated for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), fostering a vibrant ecosystem for local businesses. Jindal Aluminium has already been onboarded as an anchor investor, securing 151 acres within the development. The hub is designed to accommodate a diverse range of manufacturing sectors, including automobiles, electronics, engineering, logistics, food and beverages, chemicals, and textiles and apparel, reflecting a comprehensive industrial strategy.
According to Industries Minister MB Patil, the project has achieved approximately 30% physical progress and 20% financial progress, with a targeted completion by 2027. This initiative underscores Karnataka's commitment to balanced regional development and expanding its industrial footprint beyond Bengaluru, leveraging its strategic location and robust infrastructure. The Union Cabinet had earlier approved infrastructure nodes for the Tumakuru Industrial Area, further solidifying the foundational support for this large-scale development.
