Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road Set for ₹450-Crore Redevelopment, White-Topping to Begin in October

Bengaluru's crucial Outer Ring Road (ORR) is slated for a significant infrastructure overhaul, with the Karnataka government giving its nod to a ₹450-crore redevelopment project. This initiative targets the 17.01-kilometer corridor stretching from KR Puram to the Central Silk Board, a vital artery connecting major technology and employment hubs within the city. The comprehensive project includes essential white-topping work, which involves laying a concrete layer over existing asphalt, aimed at enhancing road durability and improving traffic flow. Additionally, substantial funds have been allocated for upgrading stormwater drains, addressing a long-standing issue of waterlogging along this busy stretch. The white-topping work is strategically planned to commence in October 2026 and is expected to be completed by January 2027, a relatively aggressive timeline for such a large-scale urban infrastructure undertaking. Recognizing the potential for significant traffic disruption during this period, the Greater Bengaluru Development Minister, Krishna Byre Gowda, has proactively engaged with companies situated along the ORR. He has urged these establishments to implement a 50% work-from-home policy for their employees during the construction phase to help mitigate congestion and minimize inconvenience for daily commuters. This redevelopment is part of a broader effort to improve Bengaluru's urban infrastructure and ensure more sustainable mobility solutions for its rapidly growing population.
