Bengaluru Traffic Police Enforce Flyover Restrictions and Ban Two-Wheelers on Key Corridors

To enhance road safety and reduce severe accidents across Bengaluru, the Bengaluru Traffic Police implemented new vehicle restrictions on five major flyovers and elevated corridors from September 4, 2026. Under the revised traffic guidelines, two-wheelers and autorickshaws are prohibited around the clock on the International Airport Road Elevated Corridor from Sanjeevnagar Cross to Vidyashilp Junction. In addition, restrictions on heavy and light goods vehicles have been introduced during morning and evening peak hours on the BGS Flyover on Mysuru Road, the Peenya Elevated Corridor, and the Silk Board–Ragigudda Double-Decker Flyover. A similar ban on two-wheelers on the Electronics City Elevated Expressway is scheduled to come into force on September 11. Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy noted that the decisions were made following detailed technical evaluations of flyover design, lane width, accident frequency, and bottleneck points. Police officials highlighted that stalled two-wheelers on narrow elevated stretches often lead to severe traffic gridlocks and fatal collisions. To ensure compliance, traffic personnel have deployed CCTV surveillance and public address announcements at entry ramps. While the department emphasizes commuter safety, the measures have prompted debate among daily commuters and two-wheeler riders who express concern over increased traffic congestion on the surface service roads below.
