Cabinet Approves Major Railway Multi-Tracking Projects to Boost Infrastructure

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has officially cleared five major railway infrastructure projects aimed at significantly increasing network capacity. With an estimated total investment of approximately ₹10,021 crore, these projects are designed to streamline rail operations, reduce traffic congestion, and improve service reliability across the Indian Railways network. The initiative is a key component of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, which prioritizes integrated planning and multi-modal connectivity. The projects involve critical network expansions, including the construction of 3rd and 4th lines between Arakkonam and Renigunta, as well as Whitefield and Bangarapet, and doubling works between Hosur and Omalur, and Salem-Karur-Dindigul. Additionally, multi-tracking will be undertaken for the Secunderabad (Ghatkesar) to Kazipet route. Spanning 17 districts across the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana, these infrastructure developments will add roughly 540 kilometers to the existing rail network. The government expects these enhancements to provide seamless connectivity for goods and passengers, impacting approximately 2,121 villages and a population of 52 lakhs, ultimately fostering regional economic development and self-employment opportunities.
