Centre Mandates Uniform 25-Day Interval Between Domestic LPG Refill Bookings

The Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed state-run oil marketing companies—Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation—to implement a uniform 25-day interval between domestic LPG cylinder refill bookings nationwide. Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi confirmed the decision, stating that the revised timeline applies equally to both urban and rural consumers with immediate effect. The policy change removes a temporary demand-management measure introduced in February 2026 during energy supply strains caused by the West Asia conflict. At that time, the government had extended the waiting period for rural households to 45 days while maintaining a 25-day refill interval for urban areas. Officials confirmed that significant improvements in LPG supply chains and a substantial reduction in refill backlogs justified restoring a single, nationwide standard. Oil marketing companies have been instructed to update booking portals and distribution software immediately so that rural consumers can order cooking gas refills without extended delays.
