Defence Forces Given Full Operational Freedom to Counter Security Threats, Says Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh declared on September 7, 2026, that the Indian Armed Forces have been provided complete operational autonomy and necessary resources to respond decisively to security challenges, including striking adversaries inside their own territory. Speaking at an event in New Delhi, the Defence Minister emphasized that India maintains a clear distinction between peace and weakness, reaffirming that any cross-border terror activity against the nation will be met with a firm response. Highlighting the government's multi-pronged national security strategy, Singh noted that efforts by adversary nations to disrupt peace, finance anti-India activities, and mislead youth in Jammu and Kashmir have been neutralized. He pointed out that since the abrogation of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed accelerated economic development, de-radicalisation, and expanding employment opportunities for youth. The Defence Minister emphasized India's doctrine of proactive defence, citing key military operations such as surgical strikes and precision aerial counter-terrorism actions. He further stressed that India is maintaining strategic autonomy in foreign affairs while aggressively driving indigenous defence production under 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'. The government's objective is to transform India from a defence equipment importer into a major global developer and exporter of advanced defense technologies.
