The action follows reports from visiting fans who noticed severe scratches directly over the singer's brass name emblem shortly after her passing on August 25 at the age of 80. The site had quickly transformed into a major public memorial, where thousands of grieving admirers gathered to lay flowers, candles, photos, and handwritten tributes.
