In a major political development in West Bengal, the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued an interim order freezing the official party name "All India Trinamool Congress" (AITC) and its iconic "Flowers and Grass" election symbol. The decision came ahead of the high-stakes Assembly by-elections in Nandigram and Rejinagar scheduled for October 6, following an escalating organizational conflict between rival factions led by former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and rebel leader Ritabrata Banerjee. To allow participation in the upcoming bypolls, the ECI allotted alternative identities on September 18: Mamata Banerjee’s camp was designated as "Mamata All India Trinamool Congress" with a "Football Player" symbol, while the rival faction was named "Democratic Trinamool Congress" with an "Envelope" symbol.
