Severe Floods Devastate Bihar as Swollen Rivers Inundate 15 Districts, Affecting 47 Lakh People

Monsoon floods in Bihar have intensified as relentless rainfall and surging upstream river flows submerged vast tracts of land, affecting over 4.7 million people across 87 blocks in 15 districts. The Ganga, along with its major tributaries including the Gandak, Kosi, Budhi Gandak, and Punpun, breached danger marks at multiple locations including Patna, Hathidah, Bhagalpur, and Munger, inundating low-lying residential areas and agricultural fields. The infrastructure impact has been widespread, with over 4,000 government primary and secondary schools flooded across 14 districts, leading to the suspension of classes. Local administration officials have opened hundreds of community kitchens and temporary relief shelters to accommodate displaced villagers. State Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary conducted aerial surveys of affected regions in Bhagalpur and Naugachia to review relief work, directing emergency teams to ensure adequate food, clean drinking water, and medical kits. Twenty-seven State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams alongside seven National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) battalions have been deployed for rescue operations using motorized boats.
