India Endorses Global 6G Call to Action for Open and Secure Wireless Telecom Standards

India has officially endorsed the global "Call to Action for 6G Leadership and Security" during the G20 Innovation Ministerial meeting held in North Carolina, United States. Announcing the policy decision in New Delhi, the Ministry of Communications confirmed that India has joined a coalition of 24 like-minded democratic nations committed to shaping next-generation wireless communications based on openness, interoperability, security, resilience, and sustainable innovation. Under the strategic roadmap outlined by Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will coordinate national follow-up initiatives with domestic tech industries, research academia, and government agencies. The policy initiative aims to elevate India from a technology adopter to a global telecommunications standard-setter, with a target to contribute at least 10 percent of global 6G patents and technical standards. This multilateral endorsement aligns national telecom regulatory frameworks with international cybersecurity and infrastructure guidelines ahead of commercial 6G deployments.
