India Endorses Global Call to Action for 6G Leadership and Security

In an official press release issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the Government of India announced its endorsement of the international "Call to Action for 6G Leadership and Security." The endorsement took place on the sidelines of the G20 Innovation Ministerial meeting held in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, US, marked by a handshake between Union Minister of State Jitin Prasada and US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick. By joining this multilateral initiative, India aligns with 24 like-minded nations—including the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, France, and Germany—to shape sixth-generation wireless communications based on principles of openness, interoperability, cyber security, and resource efficiency. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will lead India's follow-up engagements under the initiative, coordinating efforts with government agencies, industry leaders, and academic institutions. According to Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia, India aims to contribute 10 percent of 6G global standards and patents, marking a pivotal transformation from a technology consumer to a global standard-setter. Participating governments affirmed that secure digital infrastructure is vital for technological competitiveness and economic resilience. The initiative provides India with a strategic seat at the table to shape global spectrum policies and security frameworks for 2030s telecom infrastructure.
