India Forges Digital Public Infrastructure Partnerships with 24 Nations to Drive Global Digital Transformation

The Indian government has significantly expanded its global digital outreach by signing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with 24 nations to foster cooperation in Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). This strategic move aims to share India's proven population-scale digital solutions, such as the widely acclaimed 'India Stack' ecosystem, to accelerate digital transformation and build secure, inclusive digital environments across the world. The partnerships provide a comprehensive framework for collaboration, encompassing capacity building, knowledge and best-practice exchange, joint workshops, expert consultations, and feasibility assessments, ultimately leading to the development, piloting, and scaling of successful digital solutions in partner countries. This initiative gained significant momentum during India's G20 Presidency in 2023, where Digital Public Infrastructure was recognized as a crucial accelerator for economic growth and inclusive development in the New Delhi Leaders' Declaration. Since then, India has actively engaged with partner countries through virtual consultations and technical workshops, showcasing platforms like DigiLocker, e-Sanjeevani, e-Office, and e-Hospital, and assessing their readiness for adoption. Notable progress includes implementation framework agreements with Kenya for DigiLocker and the commencement of foundational DigiLocker solutions in Cuba. Furthermore, India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) continues its international expansion, linking with payment systems in 10 countries to facilitate cross-border transactions. To support Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), the government has also approved a Social Impact Fund (SIF) to provide financial and technical assistance for DPI pilot projects, underscoring India's commitment to global digital inclusion and equitable development.
