India Participates in G20 Innovation Ministers' Meeting to Drive Global AI Policy and Technical Collaboration

The Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology as well as Commerce and Industry, Shri Jitin Prasada, led the Indian delegation at the G20 Innovation Ministers' Meeting held in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States. The summit, hosted by the US Department of Commerce and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, brought together ministers and technological representatives from across the G20 member economies to establish framework strategies for emerging digital capabilities. At the conclusion of the ministerial discussions, the participating nations released the G20 Innovation Ministerial Statement. The joint consensus document outlines shared principles across six main pillars, with a specific focus on pro-innovation policy frameworks, technical workforce development, intellectual property policies for Artificial Intelligence (AI), and standardisation for AI systems. The statement highlights that emerging technologies must be harnessed responsibly to unlock productivity and create equitable socio-economic opportunities globally. During his visit, Minister Prasada held targeted bilateral discussions with representatives from the European Union, France, Germany, the African Union, and the United States. Discussions centered on deepening multilateral cooperation in advanced semiconductors, sovereign AI capabilities, data centre expansion, and robotics. India's engagement reinforces its position as a global leader in digital public infrastructure and ethical AI deployment, aiming to build international consensus on trusted and resilient technology supply chains.
