India's First Dedicated Quantum and AI University Campus Approved in Amaravati

The Andhra Pradesh State Cabinet has approved the establishment of India's first dedicated Quantum and Artificial Intelligence (AI) University campus in Amaravati. Set up under the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), a deemed-to-be university under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the landmark project aims to position the region as a premier hub for deep-tech education and research. The project is backed by a 100 percent Grant-in-Aid of ₹730.70 crore from MeitY over a five-year period. Spanning 8.5 acres in Amaravati, the proposed net-zero campus will house state-of-the-art laboratories, research centres, and residential facilities. To ensure immediate commencement without waiting for permanent infrastructure construction, academic programs and specialized skill training will begin from September 2026 at a temporary facility within Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur. The curriculum will focus heavily on quantum computing, machine learning algorithms, semiconductor chip design, and advanced artificial intelligence applications. Officials stated that the university is projected to enroll up to 4,000 students annually across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels within five years. The initiative aligns directly with national strategies, including the National Quantum Mission and the IndiaAI Mission, aimed at developing indigenous technical talent and accelerating high-tech innovation.
