Indian Railways Regularises 14 Amrit Bharat Services and Commissions Five Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals

The Ministry of Railways released an official press release highlighting major operational achievements recorded during August 2026. As part of ongoing efforts to expand affordable passenger mobility, Indian Railways regularised 14 Amrit Bharat express train services. These regularised routes enhance direct passenger connectivity across major economic and cultural hubs in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and neighbouring regions. In freight infrastructure, the rail network commissioned five additional Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals (GCTs), bringing the total number of operational GCTs nationwide to 149. These multi-modal logistics hubs are engineered to reduce transit times and improve last-mile connectivity for industrial supply chains. According to official data, Indian Railways loaded 137.9 million tonnes of freight in August 2026, marking a 5.4 percent year-on-year increase from 130.9 million tonnes recorded in August 2025. Freight revenue simultaneously grew by 6.27 percent, supported by steady demand for transporting key industrial commodities such as coal, iron ore, steel, and fertilizers across the country.
