Mangaluru City Police Intensify Traffic Enforcement, Register Over 7,490 Cases in Two Months

The Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate has significantly stepped up its traffic enforcement efforts, registering a total of 7,490 cases for various traffic violations since June 2026. These comprehensive special drives aim to curb road accidents, ensure efficient traffic management, and facilitate smoother vehicular and pedestrian movement across the city. The violations primarily targeted include illegal parking, such as no-parking zones, footpath parking, improper parking, double parking, and obstructions to traffic flow. Over ₹3.07 lakh in fines has been collected from these parking-related offenses alone, with 1,080 cases specifically for vehicles parked on footpaths. In addition to general parking violations, a focused drive was conducted between August 4 and August 12, 2026, specifically addressing vehicles with fake or defective number plates. This particular initiative aimed to prevent the misuse of such vehicles in criminal activities. During this week-long operation, authorities booked 258 vehicles for defective number plates and 74 vehicles for operating without any number plates, totaling 332 cases and imposing fines amounting to ₹3.01 lakh. Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy emphasized the responsibility of vehicle owners to ensure their number plates are clearly displayed, compliant with prescribed norms, and encouraged the installation of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP). The police department affirmed that these enforcement drives would continue, urging public cooperation for safer roads and better traffic discipline.
