Microsoft Restructures Business Segments into Two Units and Reveals Standalone Azure Cloud Sales

Software giant Microsoft has unveiled its first major financial reporting reorganization since 2015, consolidating its three business segments into two primary units: 'Agents and Infra' and 'Devices and Consumer'. The strategic overhaul comes as the tech behemoth aligns its organizational reporting directly with its artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure focus. Under the new structure, the 'Agents and Infra' segment will encompass Azure cloud services, AI software models, enterprise server products, GitHub, and Microsoft 365 business applications. Meanwhile, the 'Devices and Consumer' segment brings together Windows operating systems, Xbox gaming, Bing search, and LinkedIn advertising operations. In a landmark decision answering years of investor demands, Microsoft disclosed standalone financial metrics for its flagship Azure cloud business for the first time. SEC filings revealed that Azure generated $29.4 billion in sales during the most recently ended quarter and exceeded $101.9 billion in annual revenue for the fiscal year. The figures position Azure as a dominant enterprise cloud provider, placing it ahead of Google Cloud while trailing Amazon Web Services. CEO Satya Nadella stated that the restructuring reflects a profound shift in technology and business driven by AI adoption across enterprise platforms.
