NITK Surathkal Alumni Fund New Healthcare Centre Annexe Building

The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in Surathkal, Mangaluru, recently marked a significant step in enhancing its campus infrastructure with the laying of the foundation stone for a new Health Care Centre (HCC) Annexe building. This entire project is a testament to the strong philanthropic spirit of NITK's alumni, who collectively contributed over ₹1.75 crore for its realization. The ceremony took place on August 6, 2026, during the institute's 67th Foundation Day celebrations. The new annexe building, a ground-plus-one structure spanning approximately 3,100 square feet, is designed to significantly upgrade the medical facilities available to students, faculty, and staff. The ground floor will feature essential services, including an ECG and nebulization room with three beds, a two-bed casualty ward, a sterilization room, two consultation rooms for resident doctors, and dedicated ambulance parking. The first floor will further expand healthcare offerings with a four-bed physiotherapy unit, three specialist doctors' consultation rooms, separate restrooms for men and women, and a meeting room. Director Prof. B. Ravi laid the foundation stone, joined by esteemed guests, including Prof. Venkappayya R. Desai, Director of IIT Dharwad, Deputy Director Prof. Subash C. Yaragal, deans, faculty, staff, and a host of alumni donors. Notably, the 1986 batch was the largest contributor, donating over ₹1 crore, followed by the 1972 batch with ₹29 lakh, alongside other individual alumni and batch reunion contributions. This initiative underscores the enduring connection between NITK and its alumni, fostering a healthier and more supportive campus environment. The enhanced facilities will provide comprehensive and accessible medical care, addressing a crucial need for the growing campus community.
