NVIDIA and KAIST Launch Joint AI Research Lab to Accelerate Agentic AI Innovation in South Korea

NVIDIA and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) announced on July 23, 2026, the establishment of a joint AI research laboratory in Seoul. This strategic partnership aims to significantly advance agentic AI for South Korea, positioning the nation as a global hub for AI innovation. The collaboration, valued at approximately $300 million over an initial five-year period, will see NVIDIA contribute around $50 million annually in computing resources. The new lab, situated at the KAIST Kim Jaechul Graduate School of AI, represents the first such joint AI facility between a Korean university and a leading global technology company. It will foster a robust academic AI research program by integrating NVIDIA’s comprehensive AI expertise, including its Nemotron open models and AI Cloud partner computing, with KAIST’s renowned scientific talent. The primary focus of the research will be on agentic AI models and systems tailored for Korean industries and language requirements. Agentic AI refers to intelligent systems capable of autonomous planning, decision-making, and executing tasks using external tools and systems, often involving complex reasoning. This initiative is expected to drive significant breakthroughs in multi-agent coordination, model reasoning, tool integration, and ensuring language accuracy and data security in AI applications. By strengthening academic-industry collaboration, the partnership aims to cultivate world-class AI talent within South Korea, providing researchers with funding, internship opportunities at NVIDIA, and pathways to full-time employment for exceptional individuals.
