PVR INOX Reports Strong Q1 Profit Amidst Rebounding Indian Box Office

PVR INOX, India's leading multiplex operator, has recorded an impressive financial performance for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2026-27, marking a significant return to profitability. The company posted a consolidated net profit of ₹56.5 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, a substantial improvement from a net loss of ₹54.5 crore reported in the corresponding period last year. This strong turnaround is underpinned by an 11.9% year-on-year increase in consolidated revenue, reaching ₹1,622.2 crore. The positive results reflect a robust resurgence in India's cinema market, with overall box office collections experiencing a 20% year-on-year growth. This growth was broad-based, encompassing successful films across Hindi, various regional languages, and Hollywood releases. Key operational metrics also demonstrated healthy expansion; admissions rose by 8% to 36.6 million patrons, while the Average Ticket Price (ATP) increased by 8% to ₹273. Furthermore, average Food & Beverage (F&B) spending per head (SPH) grew by 9% to ₹161, indicating improved consumer engagement and spending within the cinemas. Beyond the impressive top-line growth, PVR INOX also showcased enhanced operational efficiency. Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation, and Amortisation (EBITDA) nearly doubled to ₹229.6 crore, with EBITDA margins expanding significantly to 14%. A notable financial milestone for the company was becoming net cash positive, ending the quarter with ₹80.7 crore in net cash, a stark contrast to its previous net debt position. This financial strengthening provides PVR INOX with strategic flexibility for future growth initiatives, including plans to add 90-100 new screens during FY27, focusing on asset-light formats. The healthy film pipeline across diverse content categories further bolsters confidence in the theatrical outlook for the remainder of the fiscal year.
