Union Home Minister Amit Shah was forced to skip the scheduled inauguration of KAHER's JGMM Medical College and KLE Hospital and Medical Research Centre in Hubballi on Saturday, September 19, 2026, after experiencing sudden health issues. Shah had arrived in the commercial hub of North Karnataka late on Friday night and was set to preside over the high-profile ceremony at 11:00 am near Gabbur, where thousands of attendees and dignitaries had gathered. According to KAHER Chancellor Prabhakar Kore, the Home Minister developed health complications on Saturday morning and stayed at his hotel on doctors' advice. In his absence, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, Karnataka Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, and Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar formally inaugurated the state-of-the-art 1,200-bed hospital facility. Following medical evaluation, Shah cut short his Karnataka itinerary and departed directly for New Delhi. The sudden illness also led to the cancellation of his subsequent scheduled public engagements in the region, including an event in Maharashtra's Kolhapur.
