Vidya Balan Joins Rajinikanth’s 'Jailer 2' as 'Kantha'; First Character Teaser Unveiled

Production house Sun Pictures has officially confirmed that acclaimed Bollywood actor Vidya Balan will star in director Nelson Dilipkumar’s upcoming action drama 'Jailer 2', opposite Tamil superstar Rajinikanth. Unveiling her first character glimpse on Sunday, September 20, the makers introduced her as 'Kantha', adding significant star power to the sequel of the 2023 blockbuster 'Jailer'. The 35-second teaser clip features Vidya Balan draped in a blue saree, walking down a staircase with an assertive demeanor while holding a lit cigarette. Accompanied by Anirudh Ravichander’s high-energy background score, her character delivers a commanding Tamil dialogue: "Once you have come here, you can't simply leave without listening to what we say." The teaser highlights an intense screen presence, sparking widespread speculation among fans that she will portray a central antagonist or a pivotal power figure in the film. Reports indicate that Vidya Balan plays the eldest daughter of veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty's character, who is reportedly positioned as the primary antagonist against Rajinikanth’s retired prison officer 'Tiger' Muthuvel Pandian. This project marks her return to Tamil cinema after her appearance in the 2019 film 'Nerkonda Paarvai'. 'Jailer 2' continues to expand its ensemble cast following recent character reveals for actors SJ Suryah as Bodhi and Suraj Venjaramoodu as Dileep. With returning cast members Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Shivarajkumar, the pan-Indian action film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 15, 2026, coinciding with the Dussehra festival weekend.
