Father and Son Attempt Suicide Outside Tiptur Rural Police Station Over Unregistered Land Dispute Complaint

A distressing incident unfolded in Tiptur taluk after a father and son attempted suicide in front of the Tiptur Rural Police Station on Sunday evening. The victims, identified as Huchappa (68) and his son Nagaraju (34), residents of Nonavinakere village in Tiptur taluk, took the extreme step after police repeatedly turned them away without filing a formal complaint regarding an ongoing land pathway dispute in their village. According to reports, the conflict originated from a long-standing right-of-way disagreement over agricultural land, which had recently led to an altercation in Nonavinakere. Seeking legal protection and official intervention, Huchappa and Nagaraju first approached the local Nonavinakere police station. However, officers there reportedly refused to register the case. Desperate for a resolution, the duo then visited the Tiptur Rural Police Station, where they faced similar indifference and delay from officials. Overwhelmed by frustration and the lack of police action, the father and son consumed pesticide outside the Tiptur Rural Police Station. Nearby citizens and station staff noticed them collapsing on the spot and immediately rushed them to a nearby hospital in Tiptur. Due to their critical condition, doctors later referred both of them to a hospital in Hassan for advanced medical care. The public reaction in Tiptur has been marked by strong criticism against local law enforcement for failing to address citizens' grievances promptly.
