The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up to host its landmark First International Film Festival (IFFJK) from September 7 to 10, 2026. This pioneering event, organized by the J&K Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), seeks to open a new chapter in J&K's rich cultural and creative journey. The festival will span across Srinagar, Jammu, and Gulmarg, aiming to establish the region as a vibrant hub for cinema, creativity, and cultural exchange.
The IFFJK has already garnered an enthusiastic global response, with reports indicating between 875 to over 1,100 film submissions from approximately 50 to 80 countries. This remarkable participation underscores growing international confidence in J&K's potential as an emerging center for film production and artistic collaboration. The four-day event is designed to be more than just film screenings; it will feature a dynamic blend of interactive sessions, masterclasses, and technical discussions covering contemporary aspects of filmmaking, including sound and editing, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and animation.
Beyond showcasing diverse storytelling, a key objective of the festival is to reignite the spirit of filmmaking within J&K, promote local talent, and empower young people associated with the industry. It also aims to boost tourism by highlighting the Union Territory's breathtaking landscapes, unique culture, and creative potential to a global audience. As a precursor, a 'Frame by Frame: The Storytellers' Meet' was held, and an 'IFFJK Emerging Filmmakers Competition 2026' has been launched exclusively for aspiring local filmmakers.
