Karnataka Government to Launch Free Online Competitive Exam Coaching Scheme 'Mukhyamanthri Vidyarthi Sahaya Hasta'

The Karnataka Higher Education Department has announced the launch of the 'Mukhyamanthri Vidyarthi Sahaya Hasta' scheme to provide free online coaching for various competitive examinations. Speaking at a news conference, Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayaraddi stated that the primary objective of the initiative is to equip aspirants from rural backgrounds and farming families with the confidence to face recruitment exams without financial strain. Under this ₹9 crore initiative, approximately 90,000 eligible candidates will receive three months of structured online coaching through selected professional coaching institutions. Candidates can obtain coaching for up to three major state recruitment examinations, including Second Division Assistant (SDA), First Division Assistant (FDA), Panchayat Development Officer (PDO), Police Sub-Inspector (PSI), and Gazetted Probationers (GP) exams. In addition to the coaching scheme, Minister Rayaraddi highlighted a policy proposal to introduce a 7.5% reservation in higher education admissions specifically for students who complete their schooling from Class 1 to 12 in government educational institutions located in rural areas. While a 15% rural quota currently exists in professional course admissions, officials noted that private school students often absorb a significant share of those seats. The new targeted reservation aims to ensure that children from economically disadvantaged rural families receive equitable access to higher education and government career opportunities.
