Karnataka High Court Grants Divorce to Actor 'Duniya' Vijay, Orders ₹2 Crore Alimony

The Karnataka High Court has officially granted a decree of divorce to prominent Sandalwood actor 'Duniya' Vijay (Vijay Kumar), bringing an end to his 27-year marriage with his wife, Nagarathna. A division bench comprising Justice D.K. Singh and Justice H. Shanthi Bhushan set aside a previous ruling by a Bengaluru family court, which had dismissed the actor's 2018 divorce petition. In its verdict, the High Court directed Vijay to pay ₹2 crore as a one-time permanent alimony settlement to Nagarathna within three months. Failure to pay within the stipulated timeframe will attract an interest rate of six percent per annum. The judicial decision took into consideration various factors, including Nagarathna’s personal circumstances, the future and welfare of the couple’s three children, as well as Vijay’s financial standing and career stature in the Kannada film industry. Vijay had initially filed for divorce in 2018 citing cruelty and strained relations, claims that were rejected by the trial court in June 2024 on the grounds of insufficient proof, leading to his appeal before the High Court.
