Karnataka Urban Development Minister Directs Raichur Officials to Draft Long-Term Civic Infrastructure Plan

Karnataka Urban Development Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah directed officials in Raichur to formulate comprehensive, long-term development plans to address the growing demand for civic infrastructure, drinking water, and waste management. During a high-level review meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner's office with the Raichur City Corporation and the Raichur Urban Development Authority (RUDA), the minister highlighted the critical deficit in the city's current drinking water supply. Raichur city currently receives 52 million litres per day (MLD) of water against a required demand of 90 MLD for its estimated population of 3.5 lakh residents. To address the shortage, local legislators suggested reviving defunct water treatment plants in nearby Devasuguru and Chikkasuguru. City Corporation Commissioner Jubin Mohapatra presented several ongoing and proposed infrastructure projects aimed at improving urban living conditions. These include an approved allocation of ₹51 crore for new roads and drainage works, ₹181 crore under the Mahatma Gandhi Urban Development Scheme, and a proposed ₹100 crore ring road project to ease traffic congestion. Additionally, a ₹135 crore proposal under the Urban Challenge grant has been submitted to upgrade infrastructure in local slum areas. The administration is also advancing plans to restore the historic Mavina Kere lake and construct a modern commercial complex at the Usmania Vegetable Market. Orders were issued to clear illegal encroachments, relocate 101 hilltop site owners to safer lands, and provide title deeds to eligible residents in Siddapura. For residents of Raichur city and surrounding taluk villages, these comprehensive municipal measures promise improved municipal governance, enhanced daily water distribution, and long-overdue civic infrastructure upgrades.
