Mangaluru Food Safety Inspection Initiated After Customer Reports Contaminated Food Delivery

Food safety authorities in Mangaluru launched an inspection and temporarily sealed the storage section of a quick-commerce retail facility in Falnir after receiving a consumer complaint about spoiled eggs containing worms. The customer, who ordered the package through an online delivery application, submitted a formal grievance directly to Karnataka Health Minister U. T. Khader, prompting swift intervention by health officials. An inspection team from the Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration visited the facility located at Falnir Square. During the operation, inspectors found packets containing broken and damaged eggs inside the storage premises. The officials directed store staff to immediately remove and safely dispose of the affected inventory to prevent any health hazards. As a precautionary measure, the facility's food storage room was temporarily closed and sealed to allow for thorough cleaning and sanitisation. Food safety officials confirmed that an official show-cause notice is being served to the company's management, demanding a detailed explanation regarding the storage conditions and quality control lapses. The department emphasized that strict legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act will follow based on the company's response and complete inspection findings. Authorities reassured the public that surprise checks across food businesses and quick-commerce dark stores in the district will continue to ensure compliance with hygiene and safety regulations.
