UIDAI Launches Aadhaar Face Authentication SDK and Sandbox for Banks and Fintechs

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new Aadhaar Face Authentication Software Development Kit (SDK) and a developer sandbox at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai. Designed to simplify digital customer onboarding, the tool allows banks, insurance providers, and fintech companies to embed face-based multi-factor authentication directly into their Android and iOS mobile applications. Previously, users had to download and switch to a separate background application, FaceRD, to complete face-based identity verification. By eliminating the requirement for secondary applications, the new SDK provides a seamless, single-app experience for users while fulfilling Reserve Bank of India mandates for secure digital onboarding. The software incorporates artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms for real-time liveness detection and anti-spoofing protection. Furthermore, UIDAI officials highlighted that the SDK enables partner institutions to run authentication processes locally on their own secure servers rather than routing every request through UIDAI’s central infrastructure, mitigating cyber risk and easing international user verification. The accompanying sandbox environment allows developers and quality assurance teams to test user consent, face capture, and network failure scenarios prior to public deployment.
