₹1.50 Crore Road Deteriorates Within Three Months at Muttinakoppa in Narasimharajapura

A newly constructed 1.5-kilometre road built at a cost of ₹1.50 crore in Muttinakoppa village of Narasimharajapura taluk, Chikkamagaluru district, has developed severe quality defects within just three months of completion. The road stretch connecting Bhadra Colony to Tavareghatta was developed under the Upper Bhadra Project as part of a sanctioned ₹2 crore infrastructure package that included ₹50 lakh for a culvert. Although asphalt laydown was finalized at the end of May, local residents report that the contractor executed the work hastily, applying only a single layer of tar in a single day before departing. Within days of opening to traffic, the asphalt began peeling off and loose aggregate scattered across the roadway. Public outrage escalated after a video surfaced on social media showing local villagers, including an elderly woman, easily sweeping away loose gravel from the newly laid road surface using a standard domestic broom. Residents of Tavareghatta expressed frustration that the road crumbled despite the absence of heavy rainfall this season. In response, local villagers submitted a formal memorandum to engineers at the Muttinakoppa Irrigation Department and the B.R. Project office. They demanded an immediate technical inspection, complete re-tarring of the damaged stretch, and strict administrative action against contractors and officials responsible for the substandard execution.
