'Bangalore Terriers' Return Home to Bengaluru After Three-Year Deployment in Jammu & Kashmir

The 106 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) PARA, popularly known as the "Bangalore Terriers", returned to its permanent station in Bengaluru on September 18, 2026, following a three-year operational deployment in Jammu and Kashmir. Serving in a high-intensity counter-terrorism environment from June 2023 to September 2026, the battalion successfully executed its duties without reporting a single casualty or operational incident. Currently commanded by Colonel Tejas B. Candade, Sena Medal, of 2 PARA (Special Forces), the unit maintained continuous operational readiness through advanced combat firing, Quick Reaction Team (QRT) drills, and inter-battalion tactical competitions. On behalf of the Karnataka government, Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) Chairman N.A. Harris welcomed the returning soldiers and commended their exemplary service to the nation. BDA Commissioner Major P. Manivannan, who serves as a Territorial Army officer with the unit, was also present during the homecoming. Raised in 1960 and re-affiliated with the Parachute Regiment in Bengaluru in 1966, the Bangalore Terriers have a distinguished military heritage including operations in the 1965 Indo-Pak war and disaster relief during the 1999 Odisha cyclone.
