India Partners with US and 24 Nations in Global 6G Telecommunications Initiative

In a major advancement for its telecommunications roadmap, India has officially joined a United States-led global consortium of 25 nations dedicated to guiding the research, development, and deployment of next-generation 6G wireless networks. The announcement was made following high-level bilateral talks between India's Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT and Commerce, Jitin Prasada, and US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on the sidelines of the G20 Innovation Ministers' Meeting in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The international agreement aims to establish shared security protocols, foster resilient technology supply chains, and accelerate foundational research into 6G standards. Both nations emphasized that building trust and interoperability into telecom infrastructure is vital for national security and digital economic growth. During the bilateral discussions, India also urged greater foreign investment under its Bharat 6G Vision and the second phase of the India Semiconductor Mission (Semicon 2.0). The two sides agreed to expand technological cooperation across key emerging domains, including artificial intelligence, semiconductor fabrication, advanced computing, and high-capacity data center infrastructure. By securing a seat at the decision-making table for 6G standards, India aims to transform from a technology consumer into a leading global exporter and innovator of cutting-edge telecommunications equipment.
