iRobot Unveils Roomba Duo Concept Robot Vacuum with Nested Companion Unit at IFA 2026

At the IFA 2026 tech trade show in Berlin, smart home robotics manufacturer iRobot showcased one of its most ambitious design concepts yet: the Roomba Duo. The prototype introduces a dual-robot cleaning system designed to address a persistent shortcoming of standard automated vacuums—reaching tight, low-clearance spaces under sofas and cabinets without compromising on heavy-duty floor scrubbing power. The system consists of a larger, cylindrical main robot designed for open floor areas. This primary unit features high-powered vacuuming, steam mopping capabilities, and a stain pretreatment mechanism. When the main unit detects a narrow gap or low-profile furniture it cannot fit under, a top-mounted mechanical arm lowers a secondary, ultra-slim companion unit—the Roomba Plus 575 Combo—onto the floor. Both robots share a unified floor map, coordinate cleaning routines through artificial intelligence, and return to a common multi-functional maintenance dock to empty debris and recharge. While iRobot confirmed that the Roomba Duo remains a concept model without immediate commercial pricing or release dates, the demonstration highlighted significant engineering achievements in mechanical counterbalancing and multi-robot task orchestration. Industry analysts noted that the nested design signals a shift toward specialized, multi-device home automation systems.
